Avoiding tooth decay in children may mean different things to different parents. Some children can drink soda and other sweet treats all day long and never suffer a single cavity. Other children’s teeth seem to get sore just from looking at a lollypop.
While there is no sure-fire way to avoid tooth decay, there are steps you can take to decrease the likelihood that your child will suffer from cavities and other dental problems.
- Sticky treats are best avoided altogether. They tend to stick to teeth and are the main factor in sugar-related cavities.
- Get children fazed over to a cup at around a year.
- Avoid letting babies fall asleep at the breast or bottle.
- Brush after every meal, and rinse with water. This is a good thing to start before the baby teeth are even in.
Ask your pediatrician or dentist about applying a treatment to avoid cavities, and if there are any other preventative measures that you can take. Some may be able to help you work out a treatment to help avoid and lessen the chance of an issue becoming too severe.
